Michigan law requires that all dogs six months and older are licensed annually. A dog license on your pet's collar will aid in his return to you should he become missing.

Licenses are sold by different agencies in your community For the most part check at your local city hall.. Proof of rabies vaccination (from your veterinarian) is required with your license application. Proof of spay or neuter (from your veterinarian) is also required to qualify for discounted license fees.

Identification Tags

It's a good idea to have an ID tag on your cat or dog, even if your pet rarely/never goes outside. Chances are, at some point in your pet's life, he will escape from your control and become lost.

If your pet is an adult and is newly-acquired, write your phone number on his collar until you obtain a permanent tag. He is most likely to slip out the door and become lost during the first couple weeks in your home. This is why the Lenawee Humane Society provides a ID tag for all animals adopted from its shelter. This tag is numbered and includes the LHS phone number so that the adopter can be traced.

A permanent ID tag should be engraved with your name, address and phone number. Consider including an alternate phone number. To order an ID tag, call Lucky Pet at 1-800-543-8247, or request an order form from the Lenawee Humane Society. You can also e-mail your order at tags@luckypet.com.
