**Please note that, although we try to keep our site updated as often as possible, some of our animals may have already found loving homes**
CLICK HERE FOR A PRE-ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE Please stop in to the shelter and visit the pet that you think may be a good match for you. The Lenawee Humane Society houses many more pets than you see here -- often as many as one hundred -- so plan a visit to the shelter to see all the available pets (this site may not have all the animals up for adoption pictured). OUR POLICY & ADOPTION FEES: Our adoption fee for a spayed/neutered animal is $60. Our adoption fee for an intact animal is $60, plus a $25 deposit (Michigan law requires us to collect a refundable $25 spay/neuter deposit for intact animals). When you have the animal sterilized by the assigned date and bring in the sterilization form signed by your vet, we refund the deposit of $25 within two weeks. You can also choose to donate the $25 back to LHS to help care for the animals that are still here if you wish. The adoption fee includes all routine vaccinations and blood tests up to date for each animal, with the exception of a rabies vaccine. It does not include spaying or neutering of that animal (although some animals have this done while residing at our shelter). This must be done at your own expense by your veterinarian if the animal you take home is not sterilized at the time of adoption.
"We now include microchips in all of our Lenawee Humane Society adoptable animals" In order to adopt a pet from LHS, you must meet the following conditions: -You must have landlord's permission to have an animal if you rent or lease your home or property. An LHS representative will contact the landlord prior to adoption completion. To adopt a dog: All animals presently owned by you must be current on yearly veterinary care. This includes up-to-date rabies vaccination, distemper vaccination, and heartworm or feline leukemia/FIV testing. If the dog you wish to adopt is NOT spayed/neutered, all DOGS of the opposite sex currently in your household must be neutered or spayed. To adopt a cat: All animals presently owned by you must be current on yearly veterinary care. This includes up-to-date rabies vaccination, distemper vaccination, and heartworm or feline leukemia/FIV testing. If the cat you wish to adopt is NOT spayed/neutered, all CATS of the opposite sex currently in your household must be neutered or spayed. Please allow 30-45 minutes for the adoption process and verification to be completed. We apologize for the length of time that is needed to complete this procedure, but we hope to ensure that our animals are placed in a safe, responsible home. Please do not ask us after 4:30pm to begin an adoption. We are unable to reach most veterinarians at this late hour for animal verifications. Within two weeks of adoption: We ask that you take your new pet to a veterinarian for a checkup, and to schedule the animal to be spayed or neutered (if needed). This helps you to ensure that you have adopted a happy and healthy new pet. Please Remember... One of the Lenawee Humane Society's goals is to control pet over-population and prevent so many animals from becoming unwanted, like this abandoned puppy that was picked up by Animal Control.
