Are you interested in adopting a pet?

In order to adopt a pet from LHS, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt. Animals cannot be adopted as gifts for someone outside your residence.

  • You must have your Landlord’s permission to have an animal if you rent. An LHS representative will call your landlord to verify any pet restrictions. Certain breeds up for adoption are restricted to Home Owners only.

  • All Animals presently or previously owned by you must have a good vet care history. This includes necessary vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention for your dog(s), and necessary vaccines and Leukemia/FIV testing for your cat(s), no exceptions.

  • If you wish to adopt a dog that is NOT neutered or spayed, all DOGS at your residence that are the opposite sex of the one you are considering adopting must be sterilized.

  • If you wish to adopt a cat that is NOT neutered or spayed, all CATS at your residence that are the opposite sex of the one you are considering adopting must be sterilized.

  • You must provide us with at least 2 character references that know you well but do not reside in the same household. Only one family member, please.

The Lenawee Humane Society reserves the right to refuse adoptions to anyone.

Each one of our animals has different needs and we try to place them accordingly.

Please understand that completing an application does not guarantee you will be approved.

We will hold an animal for an APPROVED adopter for 1 business day only

All of our adoptable cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. They have also received their Distemper Combo (FVRCP) vaccinations and have been checked and treated for parasites such as fleas, ticks, intestinal worms and ear mites.

Please understand that most of our animals available for adoption are unwanted strays that have previously had little or no medical care. We do not guarantee the health of any animal, and ask that you protect your pets at home by taking them to your veterinarian for yearly check-ups and vaccinations.

We now microchip and register each adopted animal!
