Lost Pet Report

Steps to take if you've lost your pet:                                               Printable Version

1.  File a Lost Pet Report below. Visit LHS as often as possible to check for your pet. Make sure you ask at the front desk for the specific animal you are looking for because newly-arrived animals are not placed up for adoption right away.

2.  Call Addison Veterinary Clinic at 517-547-7581. They also board county strays.

3.  Call the Lenawee County Sheriff's Department at 517-263-0524 to see if Animal Control has picked up a pet matching the description of your pet.

4.  Place a "Lost" ad with your local newspapers and radio stations. Free advertising is provided by the following newspaper and radio stations in the Adrian area:

The Daily Telegram: 517-265-5111
WLEN: 517-263-1039
WABJ: 517-265-1500

5.  Check the Found Pets section of our website and area newspapers & radio stations every day.

6.  Distribute posters that include a description of your pet, when & where it was lost, your phone number, and a photo of the animal. Talk to as many people as possible when you distribute your posters. Ask if they have seen your pet and let them know that you are concerned.

7.  If you live near a County Line, call or visit the shelter or the animal control facility in the neighboring county. Some animals can travel quite a distance in a short amount of time. It is also possible for them to be found and taken home by a caring person who may live farther away from your home than your pet could travel.

8.  Check with local veterinary clinics to see if any injured strays have been brought to them. Distribute your Lost Pet Report or posters to the clinics also.

9.  Set up a temporary comfort station near your home (provide a bed, food, and water) to encourage your pet to stay in the area if it returns while you are gone.

10.  Search for your pet, especially in the early morning hours when it is quiet. Your pet will be able to hear you calling and you will be able to hear it.

11.  When you find your pet, please put an ID tag on it if it is not wearing one already. We offer personalized pet tags to the public. Lenawee Humane Society and most veterinarians also offer microchips to permanently identify pets in case they are found by animal shelters.
