All of our adoptable animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped. Our dogs have received their Distemper/Parvo Combo and Kennel Cough vaccinations and have been treated for parasites such as fleas, ticks, intestinal worms and ear mites. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested for Heartworm Disease, and every dog is given monthly heartworm preventative while in our care.

Please understand that most of our animals are unwanted strays that have had little or no medical care before coming to our shelter. We do not guarantee the health of any animal, and ask that you protect your pets at home by taking them to your veterinarian for yearly check-ups and vaccinations.

Are you interested in adopting a pet?

In order to adopt a pet from LHS, you must meet the following conditions:

• You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt. Animals cannot be adopted as gifts for someone outside your residence.

• You must have your Landlord’s permission to have an animal if you rent. An LHS representative will call your landlord to verify any pet restrictions. Certain breeds up for adoption are restricted to Home Owners only.

• All animals presently or previously owned by you must have a good vet care history. This includes necessary vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention for your dog(s), and necessary vaccines and Leukemia/FIV testing for your cat(s), no exceptions.

• You must provide us with character references that know you well but do not reside in the same household. Only one family member, please.

The Lenawee Humane Society reserves the right to refuse adoptions to anyone.

Each one of our animals has different needs and we try to place them accordingly.

Please understand that completing an application does not guarantee you will be approved.
